Where Do You Find Yourself?

While the circumstances are a little different, the journey is very similar for all of us taking care of aging parents.  While it is hard to navigate, it is more manageable when you identify where you are in the process.  We have identified 3 phases along with information, products and services that we know are important in each one.

Finding Your Way

Finding your way is a place of education, direction, and encouragement from others who have been there and understand this new and untraveled terrain.  Your loved one is still living independently yet you've noticed subtle changes, falls, maybe early confusion and it has left you with questions.  Here you will find answers to questions like: What is caregiving? What signs should I look for?  Where can I turn, how do I cope?  How do I talk to my parent(s) about accepting help?

Living It Out

Living it out is a place that offers strategies to assist you and your aging parent, resources, and encouragement from others who have studied and lived the life of caregiving and are now on the other side.  Your loved one has some health challenges and may be starting to decline.  No longer independent but dependent upon you.  In this section you will find answers to questions like:  What type of assistance is available?  How do I apply?  Should I take the keys away yet?  Is it time to consider an assisted living facility?

Letting Go

The hardest stage of the caregiver's journey is letting go.  In this section, you will find information about death and dying from others who have professional training and passion for this stage in life.  Letting go has actually already been in progress throughout this journey, but this section will provide answers to what to expect in these last days and weeks.  Answers to questions about hospice care will be addressed.  Other questions like:  What is my role now?  How will I know when its time?  Who do I call?  Where can I find support and comfort during this transition?

About the Author

Today's Aging Parent has emerged from a place of understanding the role of caregiver and understanding exactly where you are on this journey.  When signs first began to point toward Alzheimer's disease in my mother, I struggled to find my way, live it out, and eventually experience the final moment of letting go.  Because my heart and my passion lie fully invested in caring for our aging population, I earned my Master's degree in Gerontology.  I bring not only professional experience but personal experience to the table through my blogs and stand ready to help you.  I have poured my heart into developing Today's Aging Parent to be able to walk beside you and provide practical solutions and be a source of encouragement when the journey gets too long....because it will.
